Course Description:
During the SUDS 101 course, we will go over basics of addiction. What are the fundamental processes that happen and behaviors during addiction, a brief overview of the neurobiology of addiction, substances of interest, their classes, and intoxication symptoms, post-acute withdrawal symptoms, stages of recovery, family dynamics, ways to incorporate substance abuse recovery, and
Learning Objectives:
1. Gain basic understanding of how mental health interplay’s with substance abuse and recovery
2. Learn the differences between use, misuse/abuse, and dependence
3. Discussed how to engage with individuals and families surrounding substance use/abuse
4. Discussed and practiced how to incorporate knowledge surrounding SUDS into daily interactions with clients of interest
About the Trainer:
Jason Deitz is a CADC-III and is currently the IFSP-TAY Program Manager. Jason has many years’ experience working in residential substance abuse, intensive outpatient substance abuse, and day treatment co-occurring experience, as well as lived experience. Jason has worked both in a variety of settings as well as clientele – including adolescents, families, adults, and persons with co-morbidity of housing insecurity, severe mental illness, and substance dependence. He is passionate about helping persons recovery from crippling substance abuse issues.
CEUs: This course is approved for 6.5 hours of continuing education units for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and/or LEPs as required by the California B.B.S. under CEPA Provider #129412.
